Is a hedgehog the right pet for you or your family?

If you are not sure that a hedgehog will be right for you, the best thing to do is to learn as much as you can about them. If you have a breeder who is located near you, see if you can schedule a visit to see and handle a hedgehog.

Please be aware that there are areas where hedgehogs are illegal.

If the hedgehog is for a child or teenager, an adult must be involved with daily care in most cases. Most children and teens do not have the maturity to take total responsibility for a pet.

You will need to spend some time in the first few weeks or months socializing your hedgehog to yourself and your home. The hedgehog will be used to the breeder’s environment and even the friendliest hedgehog will need some transition time.

A lot of people with allergies to dogs, cats and other furry animals can own hedgehogs.
